In keeping with the tradition, our Bollywood's men and women have already started warming up for the big Diwali night. Usually a hush-hush affair, these card party crawlers gang up to play small rounds of cards just to get a taste of the game and most importantly, their luck this season. A reliable source informs, “A few actors and the usual party throwers have already started playing cards with their close friends. This is the traditional run-up to the D-day. However, they are very secretive about it.”
The most popular form of card game across all dominant groups in filmdom is flash, better known as Teen Patti. The rules vary with each group. “It can be as simple as guessing whether it's a red or black card,” informs our source.
Each group plays with different stakes. There are low-key tables where one wins or loses in thousands. The next level goes to tables where the money at stake is in thousands but in multiples of tens. And then there are the power tables, where people usually play in lakhs.
Whoever said that the men are real players and the damsels are just distributing cards, said it wrong. The female actors, directors and producers are equally involved in the games. Minissha Lamba, who has just had a few rounds with friends says, “I was mainly born and raised in North India. Card parties are a phenomenon and I have seen my parents play it for a month culminating into the big night. We are all gearing up for the festival.”
